Have I mentioned just how much I enjoy hosting and planning surprises for my family and friends? Now you know :-). It gives me too much joy! I had the pleasure of hosting a surprise Baby Shower and my culprit this time was Maria, a colleague and friend of mine.
I strongly believe that colour is very crucial in any event design and in this case, it actually served as the Shower Theme. The ladies had settled on Yellow and Blue as theme colours which also happen to be Maria’s favorite colours too. And oh, the ladies had to wear something yellow and something blue to go with the theme.
I hosted the Baby Shower at home which made the set up and decor easier since I had all my stuff at arms length and didn’t need to worry about transport logistics and such. I really wanted something that would be simple yet elegant and at the same time cost effective since we had a limited budget.
I started the setting up the night before and by the time I retired to bed, I had set the tables and the cutlery was in place. I had also baked the Baby Shower Cake when I got home and ensured all the print work had been done and framed up.
The ladies had opted to have Pilau, Beef Stew and Kachumbari which was done by one of the ladies….Slurp, her Pilau is to die for! I had also bought some snacks to keep the kids busy and assorted fresh fruits.
As the for the Cake, I did a Coconut Cake with Coconut Flavored Whipped Cream Frosting in Yellow, decorated with fresh strawberries and blueberries and a Blue non-edible printable to place on the cake as per the Baby Shower Theme.
I had also baked some Orange Cupcakes with Orange Flavored Whipped Cream Frosting and decorated them with some printed non-edible Baby Shower themed cupcake toppers and damn, they looked so so amazing!
As for the Beverages section, we had Sodas and some Kericho Gold Assorted Tea Flavors to keep us warm in case it got chilly in the evening.
Aww, the Baby Shower turned out so beautiful and I was super elated being my first time to host over fifteen people. The smiles on their faces validated that feeling even more – it was totally worth every sweat! I really look forward to more hosting.
Oh, as we speak, Maria gave birth to a very beautiful baby girl – hopefully we can show her the pictures someday in the future. Congratulations Maria!Lots of Love,
