There is something so magical about combining Brown Sugar and Soy Sauce – such a savory and sweet taste – perfect balance of sweet and sour. This recipe is very similar to the popular Mongolian Beef which is a Chinese-American dish. Funny thing is, Mongolian Beef is actually not Mongolian, weird, huh? I always assumed that it must have originated there or at least adapted from their methods of cooking….but nada! Turns out that the Chinese love Mongolians too much and decided to name some of their dishes in their honour….cool huh….Lol.
But that aside, this dish is all sorts of amazing……The kind that makes you want lick your spoon shamelessly….I know I did. That soy sauce and brown sugar sauce is the bomb dot com and I cant wait to try it on other types of meat too….it just might turn out great.
BROWN SUGAR & SOY SAUCE BEEF AKA MONGOLIAN BEEF!
Also known as Mongolian Beef, this dish is all sorts of amazing......The kind that makes you want lick your spoon shamelessly....I know I did. That soy sauce and brown sugar sauce is the bomb dot com and I cant wait to try it on other types of meat too....it just might turn out great.
Slice your steak into strips and coat them with the corn flour
Heat the oil in a Wok/Saucepan and fry your coated beef until evenly browned and set aside
Meanwhile, add the rest of the ingredients (apart from the spring onions) into bring to a boil in a small saucepan
Once the Soy Sauce-Brown Sugar sauce has boiled, add in your beef and cook for about five minutes to ensure that the sauce has reduced just a little bit and is a bit thicker.
Finally, add in the onions and simmer for about one minute.
I served mine with some Potato Roasties and Avocado slices! I am drooling at the thought of it as we speak....slurp!!!
